Just three more days to New year, are you excited? Well I know this time of the year some guys are on vacation, some are working or for some it is just another day of the week whereas others it’s time for setting new year resolutions such as find a new job, start living healthy, have a new addition in the family, get married, start school, learn to cook or move abroad etc. As for me, 2016 will be a grand entrance to an exciting new decade! I turn 30 and intend to travel to 30 countries to mark it.

As I write this article I recall when I had a time plan: finish my bachelor’s degree and get a job at age 24; get married at 25; have 2 or 3 children at 26-28. Funny, things didn’t turn out as I had planned; I didn’t get married, no kids yet, but I did graduate and get a job at age 24…It is OK to make plans like I did but they got to be your own. My plans were great, however, they were based on what I thought was acceptable and compared it with also my friends’ lives. I was cheating myself! I wasn’t considering what I really wanted and as a result, I was unhappy, stressed and found myself trying to rush things just to stick to my life plan. However, at some point in my late 20s, I started focusing on where I was in life and where I was going, and I no longer saw the value of using an arbitrary age to note my progress in life.

I am now older and wiser! I know myself more than ever and I have accepted that everything in life happens at the right time. In addition, my year abroad has also given me a new perspective of life and it has motivated me to continue travelling. I am looking forward to many more adventures and trying out new things such as ski diving, skiing, abseiling, bungee jumping, kayaking, hiking and water rafting.
