I recently visited the Garden city mall, Nairobi (off Thika rd.). I like visiting malls… just love how everything is under one roof. You can find the supermarket, banks, shoe stores, restaurants, clothing stores and much more. Garden city mall is definitely no exception!
I tried out the Artcaffé which is on second floor because I am a big fan of their restaurant at the Village market in Gigiri. It was on a weekday and I was pleased to find it busy. It is quite a large place, the layout, furniture, lighting, soft background music and the lovely natural plants and flowers, make the place feel quite cosy and intimate.
I was there to have lunch and do a bit of work on my laptop. I was welcomed by a cheerful attendant called Lydiah who advised me where I could sit. I was, however, a bit disappointed because the power sockets are all inside the restaurant and I wanted to sit at the terrace. Anyhow, I connected my laptop to their secured guest Wifi which was quite fast and reliable.
Like all the other Artcaffé restaurants, the À la carte menu is extensive, if not a little mind-boggling. Fortunately, my attendant was very helpful and she recommended I try the Seafood Linguine which had calamari, prawns, red chillies, artichokes, tomatoes and kalamata olives – It was such an excellent dish, well seasoned, a bit spicy and the right consistency.
To finish, I had a cup of tea with Tricolad cake – definitely one of my favourite cakes. It came with 3 layers of chocolate (brown, dark and white chocolate). It was an excellent choice, exceptionally rich and tasty.
The Artcaffé at Garden city mall exceeded my expectations. I had an excellent meal, the service was remarkable, and the recommendations from my attendant were a lovely extra touch. It is not a bargain-basement restaurant, but the prices reflects the quality and it is not bank-breaking either. It is definitely a good place to have lunch/ dinner, business meeting, me-time (work on your laptop or read a book).
